Individuals on the Autism Spectrum have neurological differences that can make learning to drive more difficult than their neurotypical counterparts. Families are often at a loss for how to determine if their adolescent is appropriate for driving or not. This presentation will overview pre-driving skills that can assist in determining readiness to drive as well as strength and barriers for new driver’s with ASD. This presentation will also describe what a comprehensive potential to drive evaluation entails and how a specialized training program is designed and structured to assist teens in transitioning to parent-supervised driving and later independent driving.
