B1-G: Aging with Autism: What are the paths?

Aging is a difficult subject to predict and plan for most people. Where to live, how to live, and what supports are available require planning. Planning and predicting needs for a loved one with ASD becomes a more complex situation. Default procedures may not be desirable for aging as ASD is not a commonality in the training of the professionals involved. Here we will discuss what could happen and add suggestions on planning for life with autism after parental caregivers are unable to provide support.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Focused discussion on 65+ years of age and autism.
  1. Discuss pros and cons for all aging environments
  2. Review options for planning for loved one’s support.
