B2-A: “Unpacking Autism: The B.L.A.C.K. Blueprint™”

“Unpacking Autism: The B.L.A.C.K. Blueprint™” uses the B.L.A.C.K. framework© to focus on four pivotal areas: bridging the gap between families, healthcare providers, and educators; raising awareness of the impact of Black culture on autism approaches; implementing culturally responsive practices in professional settings; and empowering participants with knowledge to become effective intersectional advocates. Attendees will be equipped with actionable tools to enhance cultural sensitivity, foster an inclusive environment, and enact meaningful change. This workshop serves as a comprehensive roadmap for professionals and families alike, striving to make autism care and education more responsive and inclusive in the Black community.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Attendees will evaluate the influence of Black culture on autism diagnosis, treatment, and family dynamics, thereby understanding its role in shaping approaches to autism.
  2. Participants will apply culturally responsive practices to their professional settings, utilizing tools and strategies provided during the workshop.
  3. Attendees will synthesize knowledge gained during the workshop to develop a comprehensive approach for advocating for autistic children within the Black community, both professionally and personally.
