B5-A The Prevent-Teach-Reinforce Model: Essential Skills in Collaborative Teaming

Supporting students with concerning behavior can be difficult.  The “Prevent-Teach-Reinforce” (PTR) model is designed to meet the needs of students from young childhood through secondary school age with serious behavior challenges in a broad range of settings. PTR is a standardized model for individualizing procedures of behavior support based on extensive research.  PTR uses a collaborative approach and includes features designed to enhance fidelity of implementation by stakeholders. This presentation provides an overview of the PTR model’s components and implementation process. A case study will demonstrate the use of the PTR model with a team supporting a student of the spectrum. An example functional behavior assessment and behavior intervention plan developed using the PTR model will be shared. The essential skills for collaborative teaming will be discussed and the application of these skills demonstrated through the case study.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Participants will learn to identify the components of Prevent-Teach-Reinforce Model

2. Participants will learn to utilize a feasible data collection tool to use with teams

3. Participants will learn essential skills that are used throughout collaborative teaming
