B2-D: Meltdown Happens

Join us for a neurodivergent affirming discussion of meltdowns in autistic adults and teens. According to research most autistic adults continue to experience meltdowns or shutdowns throughout their lives, yet the subject is clouded by self blame and shame. This presentation is intended for autistic teens, adults and their supporters, and we will seek to normalize the phenomenon. This will include learning strategies for lessening the frequency or intensity of meltdowns; developing coping skills to use before, during, and after a meltdown; and learning strategies to advocate for support at home, in school and in the work environment.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will learn to understand the phenomenon of meltdowns in autistic teens and adults.
  2. Participants will learn strategies for lessening the frequency and/or intensity of meltdowns.
  3. Participants will learn coping skills to use before, during, and after a meltdown and how to communicate their support needs to family and employers.”
