B2-E: COMPASS for Hope: A Parent Training and Support Program for Children with ASD

COMPASS for Hope (C-HOPE) is an 8-week parent intervention program that was developed with the option of telehealth or face-to-face delivery. COMPASS is a process-based framework that provides an approach for clinical decision-making needed to integrate information from three important domains (ecological, child/family, clinician/services) outlined in the Evidence-Based Practice in Psychology Framework (EBPP; APA, 2009.  Research shows that parents who received C-HOPE intervention report a reduction in parenting stress, and demonstrate improved ratings on measures of competence. Parents also report significant reductions in child behavior problems, when compared to pre-intervention levels and in comparison to a waitlist control condition.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Learn to develop individualized intervention plans based on the COMPASS model: Collaborative Model for Promoting Competence and Success (COMPASS; Ruble, Dalrymple, & McGrew, 2012).

2.  Implications of parent stress and child problem behaviors

3. Develop an understanding of a parent training program that can be effectively used face to face or via telehealth. (Kuravackel et. al. 2018).
