B4-B Creating Inclusive Communities: An Autism-Friendly Approach

“Children and adults with autism experience differences in the ways they communicate, socialize, and interact with the world. These differences can make it difficult to access and navigate a society designed by and for neurotypicals. Nevertheless, individuals with autism deserve meaningful opportunities to participate in and contribute to community life!    Autism-Friendly initiative seeks to address this issue. The goal of Autism-Friendly is to provide local businesses with the education and tools needed to create “”autism friendly”” environments. By partnering with both public and private entities, Autism-Friendly promotes inclusivity. We will include an overview of our strategy, highlight program components and key partnerships, and preview our future aspirations. There will be emphasis on the inclusion of autistic self-advocates and autistic adults at all stages of the process.”
