B4-B: Similar Characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder and Deaf-Blindness

As the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder ASD) increases, so has the escalation of the diagnosis of ASD individuals with deafblindness (DB).  Individuals with DB and those with ASD have overlapping characteristics of the two disorders. This presentation looks at educational implications as well as interventions and evidence-based practices (EBPs) used in each field.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will have the ability to describe the difference between ASD and deafblindness.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of characteristics of both disorders.
  3. Apply interventions and evidence-based strategies for each field.
