F2-B: Autism Professional Learning Community (PLC) for Educators: A Recipe for Success

This session will outline the creation and evolution of an intensive Professional Learning Community (PLC) for educators of students on the autism spectrum. The PLC was offered three times during the 2022-23 school year, using the curriculum from the Autism Navigator Classroom Success from PreK to 2nd Grade online course (asynchronous) and companion 6-week webinar series (synchronous), followed by coaching from CARD consultants from three regional sites. The overall completion rate of all 3 sections of PLC cohorts was over 90% and the feedback from participants highlighted how they were able to use this information in their classrooms. Feedback from participants will be shared and implications for future PLC development will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Define what a PLC is and what the research says about this type of professional development
  2. List the 3 levels of active engagement and 3 layers of transactional supports used in the PLC curriculum
  3. Locate and register for the free online course and webinar series utilized in the PLC
