F2-D: Creating a Cohesive Classroom Community for Children with Autism

Creating a classroom community inclusive to all can become a challenging task with all the other expectations teachers face. This presentation will provide those in the education field with encouraging strategies to create a welcoming classroom and learning environment for children with autism and other unique learning abilities. Educators will dive into the importance of creating a classroom climate that fosters a loving, nurturing environment to allow for optimal learning opportunities for all levels of learners. Educators will discuss multisensory approaches for planning learning activities along with discuss the importance and application of multidisciplinary collaboration in the education field. Participants will have an opportunity to move forward feeling refreshed and ready to tailor their classroom environment to meet their learners where they’re at and love them well.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will be able to frame their perspective on the importance of creating a classroom that fosters community for children with autism and other unique learning abilities
  2. Participants will explore examples of multisensory teaching strategies to encourage learning opportunities with individuals in the classroom with autism.
  3. Participants will be able to understand the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration among professionals in the education field.
