FB1-B:  The Least Restrictive Environment (LRE): An Overview

This session provides an overview for participants of the legislation related to the least restrictive environment (LRE) for students with disabilities and components of the decision-making process for determining LRE. We will review selected inclusive best practices and discuss what it means to have an inclusive educational environment as well as the impact of including students with disabilities in the general education setting, along with Florida’s most recent outcome data.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will know the statutory definition for the least restrictive environment (LRE) and its impact on students with disabilities (SWD).
  2. Participants will understand the components for decision making regarding the least restrictive environment for students with disabilities (SWD).
  3. Participants will examine the impact of inclusion for students with disabilities (SWD).
