FB1-C: Supporting Instruction for Students with Most Significant Cognitive Disabilities

This session will provide an overview on how students with the most significant cognitive disabilities can be supported by providing quality instruction and services that lead to improved outcomes using in-class support models. This session will include the overview of applicable Code of Federal Regulations, Florida Statutes, and Florida’s State Board of Education Rules surrounding the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), the collaborative team planning process for instruction and assessment, along with Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) strategies to assist schools in providing services for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities using in-class models of support.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will know federal and state statutory language for the Least Restrictive Environment. 
  2. Participants will understand Specially Designed Instruction and instructional strategies.
  3. Participants will understand the steps of the collaborative team planning process.
