FB3-C: Something for Everyone: Book Clubs for People on the Spectrum..and Not

Book clubs can be an effective way to foster social interaction and relationships between people on the autism spectrum, as well as their neurotypical peers. They can be used to reduce social isolation, increase enthusiasm for social discussion, and even help improve reading skills. This presentation will be looking at the evolution of some ongoing book clubs, and offer strategies for how to effectively start and run one of one’s own.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Participants will be able to identify at least two strategies for choosing book club materials.

2. Participants will be able to identify at least three social benefits of book club participation.

3. Participants will be able to identify strategies for tailoring a book club to other age groups.
