B2-H: Increasing Independence in Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder through a Transdisciplinary Team Approach

Many adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience a variety of unique challenges with adaptive development, communication, personal, and domestic skills that can make independent living and employment success difficult (Davis, H., 2021; Roux, A.M. et al. 2018). Els for Autism Foundation® offers a variety of adult services focused on supporting these areas (Els for Autism Foundation, 2022). This presentation will outline the benefits of using a transdisciplinary team approach incorporating evidence-based practices when supporting independent living and vocational experiences for adults with ASD. Case studies, including video examples will be incorporated throughout the presentation.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Participants will be able to define what a transdisciplinary team model is as related to adults with ASD.

2. Participants will be able to describe at least three benefits of using a transdisciplinary team model as it relates to adults with ASD.

3. Participants will be able to identify at least three evidence-based practices that increase independence with adults with ASD
