K-2: A Contemporary and Compassionate Approach to Treating and Preventing Severe Problem Behavior in Persons with Autism

A contemporary and trauma-assumed version of applied behavior analysis to be considered when working with autistic persons, especially when problem behavior is probable, will be described. The values at the forefront of this compassionate ABA approach will be described along with their implications for how to respond to both mild and severe forms of problem behavior as critical skills are developed during intervention or prevention programs. 

Learning Outcomes:

  1. The attendee will be able to describe the three values that guide all assessment, treatment, and prevention processes.
  2. The attendee will be able to describe the five steps to addressing problem behaviors.
  3. The attendee will be able to articulate how to respond to mild and severe forms of problem behavior were they to resurge during skill-based treatments.
