FB2-C: Technologies to support transition assessment

Transition success depends upon identifying an individuals’ strengths and needs, and providing targeted interventions. This presentation will describe two web-based assessments that educational professionals and youth and young adults can complete as part of a comprehensive transition assessment process. The Vocational Fit Assessment (VFA) is an evidence-based, free-to-use web-app that measures both worker abilities and job demands. After rating, a report displays match between each worker and potential jobs, and provides information to guide intervention and accommodations. This presentation will review the design and administration of the VFA and examples of using the VFA in vocational training with transition-age youth with disabilities. The PEDI-PRO is an app transition age youth use to report their functional skills at work, at home, and in the community. This presentation will review the innovative features in the accessible user interface, demonstrate administration techniques that facilitate meaningful self-reflection, and share research evidence demonstrating the ability of transition age youth with disabilities to use the app in a valid and reliable way.

  1. Describe how multi-disciplinary transition teams can use assessments to inform transition goals and plans aligned with student strengths and interests.
  2. Classify optimal vocational and job placements based on the match between student/worker/intern abilities and work demands and opportunities.
  3. Interact with a cognitively accessible assessment interface used to support student self-reflection of functional strengths and needs.
