Cheryl Checkers, M.S., LMHC, NCC is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and National Board-Certified Counselor in private practice where she specializes in the treatment of adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorder and co-occurring mental health diagnoses. In addition, Cheryl is a clinical consultant for Florida Atlantic University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, where she provides consultation on co-occurring mental health diagnoses and leads a professional autism and mental health task force. In addition, she serves on the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council (FDDC) Dual Diagnosis Training Advisory Committee and is a frequent presenter on autism and co-occurring mental health conditions, locally and regionally. Cheryl received the 2022 NAMI Clinician Champion award in part for her advocacy on behalf of individuals with autism and co-occurring mental health conditions.
Cheryl received her Master of Science Degree in Psychology and Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. She holds advanced certifications in autism, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and schizophrenia. Cheryl has over 20 years of experience working with adolescents and adults dually diagnosed with autism and a mental health condition and their families. She serves as President of the Board of NAMI Palm Beach County.
