Susan “Sue” Kabot

Sue Kabot is the mother of a 45-year-old son with severe autism.  Although she was focused on a career in special education since middle school, Michael served as the impetus for more than 40 years of work specializing in educational programs for children and young adults with autism. In Florida, her work began by shaping a preschool for children with a variety of developmental disabilities into a specialized program for children with autism at Nova Southeastern University.  Besides the preschool, Sue developed a parent-child early intervention program and a college support program at Nova Southeastern University.  After 34 years at Nova Southeastern, she left the university and currently works at the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council as the Chief of Programs and Research.

She also teaches and serves as a dissertation chair for students at Nova Southeastern in the undergraduate Honors Program, and graduate programs in autism, developmental disabilities, communication sciences and disorders, and dental medicine.  Her academic training includes graduate degrees in special education, speech-language pathology, and management of programs for children and youth.  She is a Florida licensed speech-language pathologist and has earned the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
