B5D: Exploring Options in Career Technical Education

AbstractThis session explores Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities and autism in Florida Postsecondary Comprehensive Transition Programs (FPCTPs). Presenters will highlight student successes, innovative practices, workforce partnerships, and individualized supports that enhance employment outcomes. We will share what the Florida Center for Students with Unique Abilities role in the Florida’s newly mandated Workforce Credential Program (s. 1003.5717, F.S.), set for implementation by January 31, 2026. This program will allow students on modified curricula or with autism spectrum disorder to earn validated skill badges aligned with employer needs. Attendees will learn how this initiative advances career readiness.
Objectives1. Participants will gain knowledge about the Florida Postsecondary Comprehensive Transition Programs in technical colleges.
2. Participants will increase knowledge about the students eligible to attend FPCTPs and the scholarships available.
3. Participants will learn about the success of students in FPCTPs at technical colleges.
4. Participants will gain knowledge of FCSUA’s collaboration in the newly mandated Workforce Credential Program.
