B2C: Empowering Families: How to Make Confident, Informed Decisions About Therapy Approaches

Parents are increasingly asked to navigate a crowded landscape of therapy methods, online claims, and social media recommendations. Many feel pressure to make quick decisions without clear guidance on how to determine whether an approach is truly evidence based. This session provides families with accessible, non judgmental tools to evaluate intervention claims and make confident, informed choices for their children.

Rather than focusing on specific therapies, this session teaches universal skills: how to recognize credible sources, how to interpret research claims, what “evidence based” actually means, and how to ask providers meaningful questions. Using real world examples, participants will learn a simple decision-making framework they can apply to any therapy or program. The tone is collaborative, respectful, and grounded in family centered care. Parents will leave with practical strategies they can use immediately, along with a deeper understanding of how to partner with professionals in selecting interventions that align with both evidence and their child’s unique needs.

Learning Outcomes:

Identify common red flags in therapy claims, marketing language, and social media recommendations.
Apply a simple, family friendly framework to evaluate whether a therapy approach is supported by credible evidence.
Formulate effective questions to ask clinicians, schools, and service providers when considering new interventions.
