K2: Dis-Impos-Ability

AbstractDis-Impos-Ability – In this magic-infused talk, magician/autistic self-advocate Cody Clark busts the notion that people with disabilities have impossible barriers – especially when trusted figures in their lives are equipped to help make those barriers disappear. Attendees will hear Cody share what authority figures like his parents, therapists, and magic mentors did right and turn those into best practices for anyone who interacts with the disability’s community.
Objectives1. Attendees will be able to describe at least three strategies used parents, therapists, and mentors that help reduce or remove barriers for people with disabilities.
2. Attendees will be able to translate those strategies into actionable practices they can use when working with or interacting with people with disabilities in their own roles.
3. Attendees will develop an understanding of how disability does not mean impossibility and be able to articulate how trusted support and appropriate guidance can enable people with disabilities to overcome expectations or limitations.
