KI: Planning and Organizing Data Collection in the Classroom to Make it Work for You

Taking data while trying to teach is one of the most difficult tasks in special education.  This session will focus on how to plan for data collection, choose data collection tools, and implement data collection across the classroom.  Using a tool for planning out data based on your students’ needs and your classroom structure, the presenters will demonstrate data collection tools that can be used to implement a system of real-time instructional data across the classroom day.  In addition, the presenters will share tools for summarizing and interpreting data to help make effective instructional decisions.
1. Become familiar with a tool for planning out instruction and data collection for a student’s IEP and/or therapeutic goals.
2. Identify at least 2 methods of collecting data in a classroom setting that limit interference with instruction while assuring real-time information about students’ progress.
3. Discuss analysis of data collected in the classroom and tools for making instructional decisions.
