F2C: Rhythm, Regulation, and Real-Life Outcomes: A Neurologic Music Therapy Approach in Autism

This session examines music therapy as a neuroscience-informed health and wellness model for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Grounded in Neurologic Music Therapy, it highlights how rhythmic entrainment and auditory–motor coupling support communication, regulation, and motor outcomes. Evidence-based techniques (RAS, Speech Rhythm Cueing, MACT) are presented alongside a case study demonstrating improvements in attention, task completion, speech production, and laterality. Framed within the World Health Organization model, the session emphasizes transfer to daily life, promoting functional participation, independence, and well-being.

Learning outcomes:

Analyze the relationship between sensory processing, communication, and regulation in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and its impact on functional participation.

Apply Neurologic Music Therapy techniques (e.g., RAS, Speech Rhythm Cueing, MACT) to support communication, motor, and attention outcomes in clinical practice.

Design music-based interventions that promote transfer and generalization of skills to daily life contexts, including home, school, and social environments.
