Abstract
Education transition happens several times during an individual’s educational career. The final and sometimes most challenging transition for individuals with ASD can be transitioning out of the K-12 system and into higher education. The protection laws change, the expectations change, the class environment changes, and the need for independence increases. In this training participants will be provided with impactful information to best support students with ASD when they are pursuing any type of higher education. Training will include documentation processes, accommodation differences, disclosure, and support strategies.
Objectives
1. Participants will know what types of disability support services are typically available in higher education and how they differ from K-12 system 2. Participants will know what is required to be able to receive accommodation support in higher education.
3. Participants will know the best practices and strategies to assist ASD students with transitioning from high school to higher education.
