Pre-Conference: Using Practical Functional Assessment and Skill-Based Treatment to Support Autistic Students in Schools

This is a Thursday only event available as a “Pre-Conference Workshop” or as an add-on to any package. 

Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) and Skill Based Treatment (SBT) are popular methods used to address problem behavior in the field of behavior analysis. This session will provide a conceptual overview of the components of PFA/SBT, and explore practical applications specific to the classroom and public school environment. The session will review how to conduct stakeholder interviews, utilize classroom observations, design an interview-informed contingency analysis, develop a skill-based treatment protocol, and plan for generalization. We will focus on how to integrate this process with other factors present in the school setting, and how to collaborate with other school staff and IEP team members. Finally, the session will provide an overview of potential barriers to school-based implementation and provide strategies to proactively plan for and eliminate these barriers.
