B1C: Family Supports through the Florida Center for Students with Unique Abilities

AbstractThis session will introduce parents to resources developed by the Florida Center for Students with Unique Abilities (FCSUA) to support the transition to postsecondary education. Parents will explore the Family-to-Family Toolkit, learn how to request accommodations in college, and understand differences between high school and college disability services. The session will also cover how to find Florida Postsecondary Comprehensive Transition Programs (FPCTPs) and explore dual enrollment opportunities that provide early college access for students with disabilities. Attendees will leave equipped with tools to support, advocate for, and guide their student’s educational and career path.
Objectives1. Participants will gain knowledge to better advocate for and guide their student’s postsecondary and career journey.
2. Participants will learn about the Family2Family Toolkit that was developed to help families navigate the transition to college.
3. Participants will gain understanding of the differences between accommodations in high school and college. 4. Participants will gain understanding of the dual enrollment opportunities for students with disabilities while in high school.
