B3D: Empowering Caregivers of Children with ASD

AbstractThis session explores the challenges caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) face and their journey toward finding support. Attendees will hear real-life perspectives of CARD-affiliated mothers about navigating a diagnosis, accessing services, and working with schools. The presentation will highlight common barriers, both personal and systemic, and offer practical tips for educators on supporting caregivers, improving communication, and building stronger partnerships. Florida-specific resources for families and children with ASD will also be shared, equipping attendees with tools to foster more inclusive, supportive environments.
Objectives1. Identify common emotional and logistical challenges faced by caregivers of children with ASD.
2. Describe key barriers caregivers encounter when seeking support and services for their child. 3. Apply effective communication strategies to strengthen collaboration with caregivers.
