F2A: Improving Early Identification and Implementation of Children Who Will Benefit From AAC

Children with autism who could benefit from AAC are often significantly under-identified. The Augmentative and Alternative Communication Impact Screener (AACIS) is designed to be completed during the formal evaluation or re-evaluation process to help identify children earlier who may benefit from AAC implementation. Early identification can support language development and reduce or eliminate delays in access to communication supports.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be able to identify receptive and expressive language characteristics in children who may benefit from AAC intervention.

Participants will evaluate their current AAC assessment and implementation practices to identify areas for refinement and enhancement.

Participants will gain clear, practical guidelines for implementing AAC for children with unreliable, insufficient, and/or intermittent communication skills.
