B3A: Storytelling in Autism Advocacy: Turning Narrative into Impact

Every meaningful movement begins with a story. Facts inform, and data educates, but facts tell and stories sell. In autism services, data is essential, yet it is stories that give meaning to diagnosis, context to systems, and humanity to care. This session explores storytelling as a powerful tool for autism advocacy and systems change. Through lived experience, the evolution of The Autism Hero Project, and a short impact film, participants will see how personal narrative becomes community action, policy influence, and measurable change. Attendees will leave with a practical storytelling framework and reflective prompts to shape their own advocacy stories with purpose.

Learning Outcomes:

Identify how personal narrative influences public perception, institutional decision-making, and systemic change within autism services and supports.

Describe storytelling as both an authentic lived experience and a practical strategic tool for autism advocacy, education, and community engagement.

Develop initial structural ideas for their own advocacy story by utilizing a practical storytelling framework and guided reflective prompts.
